Frequently Asked Questions

How do I make a Pet Profile?
Before you start, gather the following:
  • Vaccination Records
  • Microchip Information
  • Photos of Your Pet
  1. Go to the link provided by your Property Manager/Housing Provider.
  2. Click ‘Create an Account’.
  3. Enter your contact information, read and accept the Terms of Service, and click ‘Create Pet Profile’.
  4. Select the type of animal then click Create a Pet Profile. If you are making an accommodation request for an Assistance Animal then check the box and you will be taken to the next screen.
  5.  On the next page, click on each section within the profile to enter details, upload photos and attach documents.
  6.  Click the green Proceed to Payment button at the top right of the profile, enter payment details and submit.
  7. Your Pet Profile will be shared automatically with your housing provider.
The Pet Profile is requesting a referral code to be entered. What is the referral code?
The referral code is the last 12 characters from a housing provider’s unique PetScreening URL.

Example
Housing Provider URL: https://www.petscreening.com/referral/000000000000
Referral Code: 000000000000

(Note: Referral codes are case sensitive and will need to be entered as displayed in the housing provider’s unique PetScreening URL. If you are unsure of your housing provider’s PetScreening URL/Referral Code, please contact the housing provider for assistance.)
I didn’t use a unique PetScreening URL to create my Pet Profile. How do I get this information to my Housing Provider?
  1. Sign in to your account at PetScreening.com.
  2. Open the Pet Profile that you want to share.
  3. Click ‘Share Profile’ at the top right of the profile.
  4. You then have the option to share the Pet Profile by copying the URL or sending an email.
What happens after I submit my Pet Profile application?
Upon submission of household Pet Profile applications or the review process of Assistance Animal accommodation requests, your housing provider will receive a copy of your Pet Profile for each animal that includes name, breed, age, pictures, vaccines, behavioral information and Assistance Animal documentation (when applicable).
How long does the screening process take after my Pet Profile application is submitted?
A household pet profile has an instantaneous turn around time. The review time for Assistance Animal accommodation requests is usually 24-business hours. If the review time takes longer, this likely means our Legal Review Team is waiting for validation from your third-party verifier or more information is needed from you to complete the validation.
Can changes be made to a Pet Profile after it’s created?
Yes! Pet Owners can update their completed and draft Pet Profiles at any time by logging in to their account at PetScreening.com, selecting the Pet Profile and then clicking the pencil icon next to the section of the Pet Profile that they want to edit.

Changes cannot be made to an Assistance Animal profile during the review process unless additional information is requested by our Legal Review Team.
How do I submit more information for my Assistance Animal accommodation request?
  1. Sign in to your account at PetScreening.com.
  2. Open your animal’s Profile.
  3. Click the pencil icon next to the section you want to update.
  4. Enter information / upload documentation and save.
  5. Click ‘Submit for Review’ at the top right of the profile.
How do you validate Assistance Animal Accommodation Requests?
When the animal owner submits a housing-related accommodation request, they must include documentation from a third-party verifier (this includes, but is not limited to, mental health professionals, social workers, or medical doctors). The documentation must affirm the animal owner has a disability and a disability-related need for the animal. Our legal team contacts the third-party verifier to validate this documentation, and we always strive to review profiles in 24-business hours. If the review time takes longer, this likely means our team is waiting for validation from the third-party verifier or more information is needed from the animal owner.
What qualifies as documentation for an Assistance Animal? Are you allowed to ask for this information?
We follow the Fair Housing Act (FHAct) guidelines regarding reasonable housing accommodation requests for assistance animals. The FHAct provides that reliable and credible documentation that meet the test of reasonableness may be requested. The documentation must affirm the animal owner has a disability and a disability-related need for the animal. Third party documentation such as, but not limited to, a letter from a medical doctor, social worker, or mental health professional are acceptable sources of documentation.

For more information, we provide a list of HUD, ADA and FHAct resources on our website at https://www.petscreening.com/resources.
How much does this cost?
There is a pet application charge of $20 for the first pet, $15 for any additional pet, and $0 for an assistance animal accommodation request.
Do you issue refunds on Pet Profiles?
There are no refunds since the product is fully rendered once the Pet Profile application is submitted.
How long are Pet Profiles active?
Pet Profiles are active for one year after creation. We send out a friendly email reminder about renewing a Pet Profile when it’s close to expiration.
PetScreening.com is a win-win product and service for pet and animal owners, landlords, and property managers.
